Alice & Berry’s Curious Caravan is the flagship project of Curious Caravan: a mobile and online bookshop built around the joy of discovery, storytelling, and community connection. Housed in a traveling caravan, the shop brings carefully curated new and gently used books to markets, festivals, and community spaces—transforming bookselling into an experience that feels personal, welcoming, and a little magical.
The Caravan is named in honor of two formative influences. Alice, my grandmother, was an educator and civic leader who instilled in me a deep respect for curiosity, learning, and showing up for one’s community. Berry, short for Huckleberry, was my beloved dog whose indomitable spirit, incorrigible attitude, boundless playfulness, and zest for life left a lasting mark. Huck “our berry boy” approached the world with enthusiasm, resilience, and an uncanny ability to survive nearly everything—including, memorably, eating many of the things that tried to kill him.
Together, Alice and Berry represent the balance at the heart of the Caravan: thoughtfulness and curiosity paired with joy, humor, and an embrace of life’s messiness. That spirit guides how the Caravan operates, inviting readers of all ages to explore stories that are meaningful, surprising, and full of heart.
Beyond bookselling, Alice & Berry’s Curious Caravan supports free and low-cost story time programming, online book recommendations through Berry’s Story Shelf, and future audio and digital storytelling initiatives. More than a bookstore, the Caravan is a gathering place on wheels—bringing stories and wonder into community spaces, one stop at a time.
